SUPER DON QUIX-OTE WALKTHRU (8)
By Sean HarrisSection B: Rapids and Logs
We now find Don inexplicably being dragged down the frenzied current, clutching to a perfectly split piece of lumber (there must be a working sawmill upstream).
Press RIGHT just before you collide into the large jagged rockface, and he’ll flip around it and continue down the rapids. In the next shot, our hero has hung ten. Jump between the adjacent logs before they crash into rocks; LEFT, then RIGHT, then LEFT again. Now you’re heading down a narrow trench, the camera following just behind. You’ll want to hit LEFT just before hitting the rock mass in front of you, then get ready for a quick UP to catch your balance or you’ll slip right off the log you’ve landed on. Don makes a triumphant sneer and then you’ll see a wave swelling up ahead. As he catches it and rises, press DOWN to hop to another log (yes, that was a handstand, as only a cartoon could pull off). Now jump LEFT again to another one before crashing into the stoney outcropping.
Hmm…you’re about to plow into another rock, but there are no more logs to surf on. Push RIGHT anyway when the arrow comes up, and dive into the water. Don paddles for his life for a minute, but luckily, an assembled raft just happens to be passing by. Wait for the arrow and hit UP when it appears to catch a ride.
Section C: Rafting
At last, the final section of this hellish stage. This part is easier than the last. Don will sail into a series of boulders that are sticking out of the rapids, and must maneuver around them. Hit RIGHT to angle around the first, RIGHT again between the next two, and then UP to guide the raft through a small open passage. Switching shots, you’ll be coming around a turn into a jetting cliff. Go RIGHT to avoid it, where you’ll then be in front of another large rock. Press LEFT to steer away to safety. Over Don’s shoulder, you’ll see a cave is coming up. As you near the rock wall, hit LEFT when the arrow appears to enter it. Not get ready to duck in a second; a stalactite is hanging down in your path. Press DOWN (the prompt doesn’t give you much time to react) or you’ll get a last second facefull.
Finally, you’re at the waterfall and the end of the scene. Sancho is waiting for you on the shore side, throwing his useful rope out to meet you before you tumble over the rushing edge. Hit RIGHT on the fast arrow mark and catch the line to get rescued by your comrades, then enjoy the heart tugging reunion that ensues.
